'I am generally working, not relaxing': Trump defends 'executive time'

President Donald Trump, on a tweet-filled Sunday, spent in the White House with nothing on his open calendar, protected his inordinate measure of 'official time' as periods when he seems to be 'for the most part working, not unwinding.'

He noted in a progression of tweets that in light of the fact that the 'nation was a wreck's the point at which he wound up the president, 'I had no real option except to work extend periods of time!'

Trump spent Sunday tweeting on the requirement for a divider on the Southern fringe, blaming Democrats for needing a second government shutdown to change the subject and hammering his opponents for the circumstance with their best authorities in the territory of Virginia.

But he was particularly defensive of his 'executive time' - what aides call the period when the president is watching TV, calling friends and tweeting.

'The media was able to get my work schedule, something very easy to do, but it should have been reported as a positive, not negative. When the term Executive Time is used, I am generally working, not relaxing. In fact, I probably work more hours than almost any past President.....,' he wrote on Twitter.

He added: '...The fact is, when I took over as President, our Country was a mess. Depleted Military, Endless Wars, a potential War with North Korea, V.A., High Taxes & too many Regulations, Border, Immigration & HealthCare problems, & much more. I had no choice but to work very long hours!'

His tweets on executive time were his seventh tweets of the day.
